We are Mark and Nicole Horsman, and we reside in the small town of Seward, Alaska. Roasting coffee began several years ago out of a personal love for coffee. Over time, and experience, we began offering our coffee to friends and family, and received an amazing response. Over the course of several months, we have finally completed the long process of acquiring permits and license to sell our coffee online.
We take great pride in our coffee, and strive to provide our customers with the optimal flavor of each bean. Our goal is to create a coffee roasting brand that represents our community well, and to support the farmers who grow our beans.
Our name is derived from a local landmark. On August 28, 1903, a wooden steamship named Santa Ana brought the first permanent settlers to Seward, Alaska. The cape, Caines Head, was named after the ship's captain, E.E. Caine. During World War II, the strategic location of the cape enabled our military to protect the entrance of the bay, and the port of Seward. Seward's port was considered critical to the war time logistic, as it was an ice-free port at the south terminus of the Alaska Railroad. As residents of Seward, we are proud to represent the Caines Head name. As roasters, we feel it is important to support our local economy, provide fresh coffee to our customers, and support the farmers who provide us these delicious beans. By only buying our beans fair and direct trade, we support a better life for farming families in the developing world through fair prices, community development and environmental stewardship. You are truly buying more than just a bag of coffee.
